Stages of development
Newborn puppies sleep almost constantly for the first week or two of their lives.
Hand rearing
If your bitch has too many puppies to feed or if she rejects one of the puppies you may need to hand rear. It is important that they receive some of the mother’s first milk, the colostrum, which contains a high level of protective antibodies to give their immune system a head start.
Weaning
Weaning can start at around three and a half weeks of age. Some people like to provide a good quality milk replacer in a bowl to enable the puppies to learn how to lap.
Deworming
Puppies should be dewormed from 2 weeks of age every 2 weeks until they are 12 weeks.
